I lost 10 pounds in 30 days

30 days ago I found out I was obese.

And 30 days ago I decided I was going to stop being obese.

And become fit instead. Just like I used to be when I was younger.

So, I set out on a mission: Go from 222 to 180 pounds.

I have to lose 42 pounds

And I have do it in just 4 months.

So that means I’ve gotta lose 2.5 pounds per week on average, or 10 pounds per month.

Most fitness coaches would say this is a pretty aggressive goal and won’t be easy to pull off.

And it hasn’t been easy. It’s been a lot of pain and suffering to be completely honest.

But, after the first (of four) months… how did I do?

I lost 10 pounds.

I reached my first checkpoint exactly on track: from 222 to 212 pounds.

Which means I’m on track to reach my goal of 180 by September.

I know. This is a copywriting email and I'm talking about losing my big belly.

Stay with me, because losing weight and hitting $10k/month as a copywriter run on the exact same engine.

Here are 3 ways you can apply my weight loss journey to your copywriting journey (to hit $10k months sooner):

Starting with…

#1 SET CLEAR GOALS

A month ago I set a super specific goal. I’m going to go from 222 pounds to 180 pounds. That’s 42.

And I didnt’ just set the goal. I set a specific timeline: 4 months.

I have to lose 42 pounds by September 1, 2026.

Have you set your copywriting income goal yet? And do you have a specific timeline to get there?

If not, do that today.

I did that as a new copywriter in 2019. My first goal was hit $5,000/month in 6 months. I didn’t hit it in month 6. But I did month 7.

Then I moved the goalpost to $10k/month by month 12. Again, I didn’t hit it. But I did reach $9,000/month at month 12. And eventually $10-$15k months.

Next up…

#2 Focus on the Boring Fundamentals

I’ve learned there is only one way to lose weight:

Burn more calories than you consume.

That’s it.

That means focusing on two things:

Diet (which is like 95% of losing weight)

And exercise (which is about 5%).

So every day, I’m sticking to a calorie goal. Buying healthier food at the grocery store. Eating out less. Filling my belly with broccoli as much as possible. Focusing on protein-rich foods.

And I’m tracking all of it on an app.

Plus, I’ve committed to doing 30 mins of exercise every day no matter what.

Including 3-4 runs per week on my treadmill.

And it’s working. Losing 10 pounds in a month is proof of it.

Same is true for copywriting: stick to the boring fundamentals daily and you are guaranteed to reach your goals:

The two fundamentals are simple:

#1 Write copy every day.

#2 Outreach every day.

That’s it. It’s not complicated.

If you stick with those and spend 1-3 hours a day on them, you can’t lose.

#3 Learn daily

Now that I’ve set my goal, given myself a timeline, and am focusing on the fundamentals, the final piece is learning.

Every single day, I’m consuming fitness and diet content. On Youtube, Instagram, email, everywhere.

Everywhere I turn, I learn something new that helps me reach my goals sooner.

Whether that’s learning that Costco’s spicy chicken burgers have absolutely insane macros (like 150 calories and 27 grams of protein)…

Or learning new tactics to intermittent fast to shed weight quicker.

And one of the most important parts has just been reminded this is what I want. Every time I see a fitness guru shredded and eating leafy greens online… my goals are reinforced. And a surge of motivation rushes through my veins.

The same is true for you, copywriter.

You NEED to learn daily. You need to spend time studying the masters like David Ogilvy and Gary Halbert. You need to read copywriring books to learn consumer psychology.

You need to take courses to learn what works best in 2026 for digital copywriting.

And most importantly, if you want to reach your goals faster, you need to invest in yourself too.

I invested in a running coach. I invested in a diet app. And I invested in healthier foods and supplements.

All of that is huge reason I’m reaching my weight loss goals so fast.

I did the same thing with copywriting as a beginner.

I invested $5,000+ into copywriting in my first year alone. And that first year, I went from zero to $9,000/month.

Since I started, I’ve invested over $40,000 total into my copywriting education. And it has paid back time and time again. I’ve made over $800,000 in profit since starting. A 20x ROI. And a comfortable six figure income for years.

And most imprortantly I’ve built a business that revolves around my life, not a life that revolves around business.

I get to wake up when I want. Eat breakfast with my girls. Take time off to take them to the park on a Tuesday at 10:30 am if I want.

Travel the world when I want. In 2025, we travelled through Italy for a month. And lived in a Phuket luxury condo for 3 months. Just because we can.

If you want to build a better life for yourself in 2026 with copywriting, then you need to:

  1. Set clear goals

  2. Focus on the fundamentals (writing and outreach)

  3. And make a continuous commitment to learning daily
