I lost 23 pounds in 90 days
I'm a fitness coach now??
So I’ve been overweight for 5 years.
Ever since my first daughter was born.
Interesting…
But as much as I’d like to blame her for it…
It’s 100% my fault:
Fast food multiple times a week (road burgers are the best)
Late night snack attacks (salt and vinegar chips + chocolate)
Sugary drinks (I ❤️ rootbeer)
Hmmm I’m getting hungry again just reading this list.
Oh and I’ve been baaaaarely exercising.
According to my fitness app, Cal AI…
I’m not just overweight.
I’m obese.
I know it. My wife knows it. Even my kids know it.
In fact, my 5 year old started calling me “big fat daddy” a few months ago.
😂
So I figured, enough’s enough.
I’m done being big fat daddy. I want to be strong and fit daddy.
So 90 days ago I gave myself a challenge:
I’m going to go from 222 lbs to 180 lbs by September 2026.
I’m going to lose 42 pounds in 4.5 months.
Game on.
Well…
It’s been a wild ride.
I’ve been REAL hungry.
But I’ve managed to lose 23 pounds so far.
Finally slipped below 200.
199 pounds.
Only 19 more pounds to go.
In about 6 weeks.
I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel.
And…
I did the same thing with copywriting back in my first year (2019).
My first big goal was $5k/month within 6 months.
I fell just shy of my goal that month. I was only making $1,000/month. But in month 7, I hit $5,000/month.
My next goal was $10k/month by month 12. I fell just shy of it and hit $9,000/month. Took me a few more months to hit my first $10k.
But the point is I was only able to even come close to that goal because I set it to begin with. If I hadn’t written it down daily, I’d probably still be stuck in my 9 to 5.
So what’s the lesson here?
The lesson is, if you don’t set goals, you’re a crazy person.
Check out this stat:
"People who write down their goals are 42% more likely to achieve them."
- Dr. Gail Matthews, psychology professor, Dominican University of California ("The Impact of Commitment, Accountability, and Written Goals on Goal Achievement," 2007)
Imagine being able to give yourself an advantage as a copywriter.
Where you are literally 42% more likely to succeed.
42% more likely to land that first client this month.
42% more likely to hit your first $5,000 month by summer’s end.
42% more likely to hand in your two weeks’ notice to your boss by Christmas.
42% more likely to hit $10k-$15k/month by this time next year.
IMAGINE THAT ADVANTAGE.
You see… the thing is, most copywriters don’t set any goals at all.
This isn’t basic advice either.
“Everyone tells me to set goals.”
Yeah, but do you actually do it?
Do you actually sit down and write out what you truly want in life?
Or do you just “kinda want it”??
The first thing I get every single paying copywriting student of mine to do is set goals.
And a mandatory part of my six-figure copywriter program is to write down your goals not just once…
But…
Every. Single. Day.
Why?
Because if you don’t know where you’re going, you will never get there.
And we think we’re smart. We think we know how to win in life. We think we’ll somehow one day magically be living our dream life just because.
Doesn’t work like that.
You have to make your goal clear. Evident. And repeat it to yourself like a madman until you achieve it.
So, my CTA for you today is simple…
Set a clear goal as a freelance copywriter:
How much money you want to make
When you want to make it
With a clear date to quit your job
You must write down the dollar amount (this can be a monthly amount you intend on earning like $10,000/month).
You must write down when you will reach that goal.
And you must write down the date you will hand your two weeks’ notice into your boss (if that’s your goal as a copywriter).
Got it?
Good.
Now do it. Right now. Stop what you’re doing. And take literally 60 seconds to write this down. It can be with pen and paper. It can be with your computer. Or with your smartphone notes app.
If you’re serious about getting that laptop freedom you truly want with copywriting…
Then set your freedom goal now.
