“Why does a welcome email matter?”

A new copywriter in my Academy just asked me this.

He wanted to know what made it so important. And why businesses need to have one set up.

For context… a welcome email is an automated email that gets sent out to new subscribers the moment they join your email list.

Here’s my answer:

The welcome email is the most important email any business will ever send.

It has the highest open rate (83% average according to GetResponse 2025) - 4x higher than the average email.

It's the first impression anyone will ever get of your brand.

You are talking to HOT leads who JUST entered your funnel. This is a crucial time to warm them up more, show them the value of entering your funnel...

And sell those who are ready right away.

Just think about it…

When you walk into a retail shop in person, let’s say a clothing store... how important is it for the people working there to greet you?

To let you know they're there to help. And that you can reach out anytime.

And that there's a special on right now for buy two get one free.

How WEIRD would it be if they just stood there ignoring you while you browse?

That's what a welcome email does for a brand. It's a warm welcome with built-in sales.

It's like having a customer service and sales person on the clock 24/7 to serve and sell your audience. Even when you’re sleeping.

Don't SKIP the welcome email. Or you're burning money while allowing your competition to win your new subscribers over.

I once wrote a welcome series that generated ~$350,000 for one of my clients over 3 years.

P.S. I’ve got something cooking up behind the scenes. Something brand new for copywriters wanting extra help. It’s coming soon. Do NOT skip my emails for the next few weeks. You won’t want to miss this. There’s going to be limited seats for what I’m about to offer. And I don’t expect them to last long.
