“Here’s the final draft!”
“Invoice attached.”
“Let me know if you need anything else.”
Is this you?
So if you’ve ever wrapped up a $2,000 copywriting project like that…
What exactly are you hoping your client will say?
“Actually, Brandon, I’ve mapped out the next four emails I want you to write. Can I pay you for those too? In fact, here’s $4,000, I’m doubling your retainer just because I want you to hit six figures as a copywriter.”
Would be nice, wouldn’t it!
But say you just wrote a Black Friday campaign for a course creator. You’ve spent the last two weeks in their business. You know what they sell. You know what objections came up. You probably already have an idea for December. A new promotion for them to launch for the holidays.
Don’t wait for them to pitch you on doing more work for them and paying you more.
YOU TELL THEM.
YOU LEAD THE WAY.
YOU ARE IN CHARGE, NOT THEM.
Instead, say this after a one-time project finishes up with a new client:
“Hey Bob, the Black Friday campaign got some solid results. We made you an extra $23,500 from the launch from your email list of 6,500 people. I’ve got another idea for December we can do that should do well. It’s a totally different angle. Here’s my loom video breaking it down.”
Then send your new client you just landed and turn them into a retainer. Send them the new idea. New pitch. New invoice.
And crush it for them again.
If you’re trying to hit consistent $10k months, it’s not going to just happen to you. It’s going to be YOU making it happen.
By providing more value. Pitching an ongoing retainer. And crushing it in the first 90 days so they want you to stick around.
So here’s your homework today:
Look at the last project a client paid you for. Look at the results. Revenue and sales matter most. Conversion rate and leads are next. Any metric that’s associated with business growth. Turn it into a case study. Tell your client what you did for them. And then…
Find ONE thing worth doing next. And send your client a loom video breaking down project #2 idea and potential outcomes. And ask if they want help with it. When they say yes, send them your rates.
